Book Evolution Notes

Book Evolution

  • Academics seem intent on deconstructing books without ever having actually constructed a book. By which I do not mean authoring a book, but the act of designing, styling, and converting a manuscript into a document for public consumption.
  • Correspondence is a parallel stream to reading a composed document, personal links run along the correspondence, reference links bind the streams together.
  • Analysis needs to strip away the physical aspect of the book and its ancillary objects. The underlying patterns are more important, and are what can be recast to be better adapted to new formats. APIs / XML structures can iterate into multiple formats very quickly. Formatters/readers can choose a wide range of presentations, encourage new formats to evolve.
  • Halo is rooted in SF stories. Bob Stein takes inspiration from the story in the game to comment / converse about it.

4 oz coffee
2 oz bourbon
1 oz dark maple syrup
1/2 tsp bacon syrup (max 1 tsp)

Fill a 20-30 oz cocktail shaker 1/4 full with crushed ice. Add ingredients in listed order, shake thoroughly (at least 30-60 seconds). Pour straight into pint glass without straining. If you’ve done it right, what you’ll get looks a lot like a freshly pulled draft stout. The foam is really stable, you may need a spoon to finish it off.

Bacon syrup: Available via Torani or World Market.
